Tiling on a Budget

Tiling on a Budget

Does your bathroom or kitchen need a little TLC? Whether you’ve just moved in to a new property that needs a little updating or just need a change in your long-term home, it can be difficult to know where to start. Especially if you are working on a budget. It’s no surprise to learn that sometimes redecorating can leave you feeling as though your bank account has taken a knock. Luckily, there are ways of cutting back the costs where you can to still give you a gorgeous new bathroom or kitchen that won’t leave you feeling out of pocket by the end of it.

In terms of materials, there are definitely some materials that will help you to keep those pennies in your wallet. Your best bet would definitely be a porcelain or ceramic tile. Thanks to continuing advancements in manufacturing, porcelain and ceramic tiles are available in a huge range of designs and colours, making finding your perfect one easy. Porcelain tiles are clay based and are exposed to intense heat in a kiln. This makes them incredibly durable as well as non-porous, which protects the tile from water damage as well as scratches. Similarly, ceramic tiles are also clay based. This too makes them non-porous and scratch resistant which is perfect for bathrooms and kitchens. These tiles are incredibly similar with no one better than the other. Ultimately the choice is down to you and your preferences but luckily both come in an unbelievably huge range of looks.

It may be tempting to follow the current interiors trends and invest in some unique looking tiles. However, if money is your main priority you will want to instead stick to something a little more timeless. This is because, while trending looks will give you that gorgeously current look, they are still trends and won’t last forever. The trick is to aim for a fairly classic tile look and then simply update your accessories as and when trends come and go. This gives you an excellent blank canvas to work from while still keeping your home up to date with whatever looks are popular. If you’re worried that a plain tile will be too simplistic or unimaginative, try using borders on your walls or floors for that little bit of dimension. This will also allow you to chance to work with accent colours, particularly if you use a mosaic border. Alternatively, metro tiles have been homeowners favourites for nearly a decade now and show no sign of fading out. Metro tiles allow you to work with vintage glamour and industrial looks perfectly, but are also incredibly adaptable.

Working on a budget doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice substance over style. With the interior design industry taking off in recent years it is now easier than ever to redecorate your home. Getting that professional look is simple and this extends to tiles too. Sticking to these tips and tricks will allow you to get your dream bathroom or kitchen all while leaving you with money to count at the end of it.
